Nightingale HQ’s AI Productivity Toolbox project will support SME’s across the UK that need to dramatically lower costs by creating six, free-to-use, AI-based tools. Essentially, the tools will be able to be used ‘off the shelf’ and will integrate with the software and systems that businesses use in their day-to-day work.

Beginning in July, the project will see one tool launch each week, including chatbots, meeting captioning and transcript software, Sales AI, Cognitive AI-powered invoice processing, social listening AI and productivity-boosting Robotic Process Automation. These technologies will help businesses build essential digital capabilities in the face of a post-COVID-19 world.

FAQs

What is the significance of the Innovate UK grant?

Wales 247 reported on the Innovate UK grant at a time when it was significant news for the Welsh tech sector. A £50,000 grant from the UK Government’s research and innovation organisation, awarded competitively to one of 800 selected companies from a much larger pool of applicants, represented both funding and validation.

The validation mattered as much as the funding. Innovate UK’s assessment process is rigorous — it evaluates both the technical merit of the proposed project and the commercial potential of the company. Being selected demonstrated that Nightingale HQ’s approach to AI for SMEs was credible, viable, and worth public investment.

What is the GoSmarter Toolbox — what it was and why it mattered?

The six tools described in the Wales 247 piece — chatbots, meeting captioning and transcript software, Sales AI, cognitive AI-powered invoice processing, social listening AI, and productivity-boosting Robotic Process Automation — were designed to be adopted without specialist technical knowledge. Each one was aimed at a specific, common business problem. Each one was free.

The decision to make the tools free was deliberate. The Innovate UK grant funded the development cost, which removed the need to monetise immediately. But more importantly, it was a statement of intent: Nightingale HQ was building tools because SMEs needed them, not because there was an easy revenue opportunity.

What is Wales 247?

Wales 247 is a digital news platform covering Welsh business, culture, and current affairs. It reaches a broad audience across Wales — business owners, community leaders, public sector professionals, and citizens interested in what is happening in their country. Coverage in Wales 247 helped establish GoSmarter as a Welsh company doing meaningful work, not just a tech startup with a Wales postcode.

For a company that was deliberately building in Wales and investing in the Welsh tech ecosystem, local coverage like this was an important part of building the profile and the network that support long-term growth.
