Scrap Management

The Scrap Management tool allows you to log and view your scrap, helping you identify wastage and areas of your production process that can be improved.

Tracking and Managing Your Scrap

The Scrap tool allows you to log and manage your scrap and access a record of changes. Note that in this context, scrap is different from offcuts, which can be managed as part of your inventory.

The Scrap Manager is a handy tool for giving you insight into your wastage. Manually enter scrap here at the point of production to help you decide which areas of your process need refining.

What You’ll See

The Scrap page shows a table with all your scrap records. Each row represents a different type or batch of scrap.

Common columns you’ll see:

  • Log Date - The date the record was added or edited
  • Bin/Skip Reference - The bin or skip the scrap relates to
  • Starting (kg) - The weight of the scrap at the time the record was created or last edited
  • Closing (kg) - The current weight of the scrap
  • Net (kg) - The difference in weight between Starting and Closing
  • Logged By - The user that created or edited the scrap record
  • Created At - The date and time the record was originally created

Adding Scrap

Scrap can be logged either by uploading a CSV with one or more records in it, or by adding items directly via the app. If you want to add records via CSV, you can download a template.

CSV Upload

To bulk upload items you’ll first need to download a CSV template. Click the Bulk Actions button on the top-right of the screen and select Download CSV Template. This will download a file you can open with Excel to add items as rows.

Once you have populated the CSV, you can upload it by again clicking Bulk Actions, and selecting Upload Scrap Log CSV.

You can also download all of your data as a CSV in the Bulk Actions dropdown.

Direct Entry

To add an entry directly click Add Entry above the data table. This will launch a window containing a form for you to fill out. Once you’ve completed the form click Add Entry in the bottom left of the window to complete your entry.

Editing

All items can be edited via the Actions button to the right of their line items in the data table. Click Actions and then Edit to open the edit window. This window is essentially the same as the New Entry window but prepopulated with the item’s existing information. Note that Log Date is the date of the edit. Simply complete the form and click Save Changes to submit the edit.

Edit History

All changes to scrap records are tracked. This way you can adjust scrap amounts for an existing item, instead of having to create new records every time new scrap is created. To view a record of changes made to an item, click View History in the Actions dropdown.
