The Standards Library is a free tool from GoSmarter, built by Nightingale HQ, that puts 14 welding and structural codes on one filterable page. It replaces the usual routine of digging through bookmarked publisher PDFs. That routine means checking which code covers your job, what inspection it defaults to, and whether it needs a qualified welding procedure before you cut an arc. [Quality engineers](/solutions/compliance/) lose hours a month doing exactly that, one standard at a time, across tabs that never quite agree on terminology.

GoSmarter built the library to fix it. One page, 14 entries, filterable by category and region, with every source linked straight to the publisher. There's no login and nothing to integrate: it's a static reference page you can bookmark, share, or point a colleague at directly.

## What's Actually in the Library

The library holds 14 entries. Thirteen are welding codes; the fourteenth, AS/NZS 4600, is a structural design standard for cold-formed steel that earned its spot because engineers checking welding scope for thin-gauge steel structures need to know it exists, even though it isn't itself a welding code.

**Cold-formed steel** is steel shaped into structural sections (studs, purlins, roof battens) by rolling or pressing it at room temperature, rather than by hot-rolling it into I-beams and channels. AS/NZS 4600 governs how you design with it. It sits in the library, not the Welding Code Selector's quiz, because it answers a design question, not a "which welding code applies" question.

Every one of these is a **real, publicly available standard**. GoSmarter doesn't paraphrase the text of the standard itself. It surfaces the scope, the prequalification stance, the default inspection expectation, and links you to the publisher to read the actual clause.

## What Each Card Actually Tells You

Every standard's card carries the same nine fields, so comparing two codes side by side takes seconds instead of two separate PDFs.

- **Name and full name** — the code number and what it's actually called
- **Region and category badges** — where it applies and what kind of job it covers
- **Publisher** — AWS, ASME, API, ISO, EN, CSA, or Standards Australia/NZ
- **Scope description** — what the code covers and, just as importantly, what it doesn't
- **Prequalification stance** — whether the code lets you use pre-approved joint details, or forces you to qualify a procedure from scratch
- **Default inspection expectation** — what level of inspection the code assumes as standard
- **Material scope** — the steels, aluminiums, or alloys the code was written for
- **Typical use** — the kind of structure or component you'd actually apply it to
- **Failure consequence** — what happens, in plain terms, if a weld made to that standard fails

> Getting the prequalification stance wrong is one of the more expensive mistakes a fabricator can make. Assume a joint is prequalified under AWS D1.1 when it actually needs a qualified procedure, and you find out at the worst possible moment. That moment is after the weld is made, when a customer or inspector asks for the paperwork.

Each card also carries a **Sources** list: links to the publisher's own pages for that standard. That means AWS pubs.aws.org PDF listings, ASME and AWS partner pages, API's own product page, the eCFR text at §192.243 for pipeline welding, ISO.org's standard pages, CWB Group for Canadian codes, Standards New Zealand, the ANSI Webstore, and a handful of secondary explainer sources such as TWI Job Knowledge. Every link opens in a new tab, so you never lose your filtered view while you go and check the source.

## Filter and Link Straight to What You Need

Two filters cut the grid down: **category** and **region**.

GoSmarter derives category automatically from the tags across all 14 entries: welding, structural, pipeline, aerospace, pressure, bridge, rebar, and cold-formed. Pick "pipeline" and you get API 1104 and nothing else. Pick "bridge" and you're straight at AWS D1.5.

Region covers US, Canada, AU/NZ, EU/UK, and International. If you're quoting a job for an Australian client, filter to AU/NZ and you're looking at AS/NZS 1554.1 and AS/NZS 4600 with everything else out of the way.

Both filters write to the page URL, so a filtered view is bookmarkable and shareable. Send a colleague a link to `?category=pipeline` and they land on exactly the same filtered grid you're looking at, no explanation needed.

The library also supports deep-linking by standard ID: a URL like `?ids=AWS_D1_1,ASME_IX` jumps straight to those two entries. That's not an accident. Neither tool does your engineering for you. Both point you at the actual publicly available standard faster than a search engine and a stack of open tabs would.

## What This Tool Isn't

The Standards Library is a reference, not a calculator. There's no quiz here, no scoring, no recommendation engine: that's what the Welding Code Selector is for. This page does one job: display structured, sourced standards data, filtered the way you want it, linked to where the real text lives.

Every standard and source listed on the page is publicly available. GoSmarter didn't buy licences to reproduce the full text of AWS D1.1 or ISO 3834. It wouldn't be legal or useful if it had. What you get instead is the practical summary: scope, inspection stance, material fit, and a direct link to go and read the clause yourself.

That comes with a plain disclaimer. The library reflects GoSmarter's interpretation of publicly available standards and regulatory sources. It isn't legal, engineering, or compliance advice, and it may not reflect the current edition of a standard. Standards get revised. ## What Shipped Alongside It
